About the role
We are seeking Substitute Health Technicians and/or Licensed Practical Nurses to provide coverage in school health rooms for absent Health Technicians or LPNs.
Responsibilities
- Monitors students in a variety of settings such as the health room and classroom
- Assists with various health screenings (e.g., hearing, vision, height/weight)
- Assists with management of health room(s)
- Assists in the care, maintenance, and inventory of supplies and equipment for health rooms
- Models appropriate behavior for students
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff, parents, and students
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality
- Complies with applicable District, State, and Federal rules, policies, and practices
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Knowledge to perform basic math and reading
- Skills to obtain, clarify, and exchange information
- Skills to gather, collect, and record data
- Ability to remain calm and focused under stressful conditions
- Ability to use job-related equipment and technology
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Working Environment
- Job duties involve sitting, standing, bending, stooping, walking, and lifting students
- Exposure to body fluids and infectious diseases
- May be exposed to high noise levels
- May be required to deal with distraught and potentially violent students
- Work is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment
Qualifications
For Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN): Must provide a valid State of Washington Practical Nurse License.
- Fingerprinting and background check to determine no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury, or neglect of a minor
- Must complete SafeSchools trainings and adhere to district infection control plan
- First Aid and CPR Certification (must provide a copy of the certification)
Pay
- 2026-2027 Substitute Rate for LPN/Health Technician: $34.48 per hour
- 2026-2027 Substitute Rate for Health Technicians (without LPN License): $23.99 per hour

For on-call positions, eligibility for benefits is determined by the number of hours worked during the last two school years (September 1 through August 31). Some on-call positions may not be benefit-eligible.
