Substitute Dance Instructor - McFetridge Sports Center

Under direct supervision, the Substitute Dance Instructor fills in when regularly scheduled instructors are unable to teach, providing instruction to participants of all ages including early childhood, youth, and adults. We are specifically seeking a Latin dance substitute for the styles of Bachata, Salsa, Latin Rhythms, and Latin Workout.

Responsibilities

• Instruct scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate and effective dance skills and lessons
• Lead instruction according to the approved lesson plan in a fun environment while teaching specific dance techniques
• Maintain a positive, safe, and nurturing environment
• Explain and demonstrate dance techniques, applying movements of the body to musical accompaniment
• Provide age-appropriate instruction for all program levels, observe students to determine physical and artistic qualifications and limitations, and adjust class plans accordingly
• Ensure safety standards are met and department/facility policies are adhered to
• Provide positive and professional communication with customers
• Ensure the safety of all participants during classes and performances; report problems, unsafe conditions, behavior issues, and accidents to management
• Maintain class attendance records
• Keep the dance room neat and organized
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Current Red Cross CPR certification
• Working knowledge of fine arts, dance, and training principles
• Knowledge of group dance teaching strategies and incorporation of music, technique, and safe dance practices
• Ability to be professional and motivate class participants
• Ability to cooperate, work well with other staff members, and work with limited supervision
• Ability to think as a team member
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Must have availability in the evenings weekly

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to walk, stand, sit for long hours, and work with various types of fitness equipment
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
• Occasionally required to aide or assist participants
• Must have the endurance to complete the instruction of the assigned fitness program

Pay

$21.00 per hour
