Essential Job Functions
- Admits and discharges sick students in the clinic.
- Administers medication as prescribed, following proper procedures and policies.
- Maintains appropriate medication documentation.
- Performs specialized healthcare procedures as prescribed.
- Treats minor injuries and health emergencies.
- Contact emergency services and parents when necessary; performs first aid and CPR until help arrives.
- Aids school nurse in health screenings, examinations and other medical, health and hygiene procedures.
- Processes student attendance daily, at principal’s discretion.
- Provides clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies.
- Attends required training, professional development and meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Some knowledge of medical conditions, symptoms, medications, treatments and proper hygiene.
- Some knowledge of childhood growth and development.
- Demonstrated ability to assess illnesses, injuries, seizures and determine appropriate immediate treatment.
- Demonstrated ability to obtain appropriate medical assistance to handle emergencies.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic clerical tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff and parents in a professional manner.
Additional Job Requirements
- Must be First Aid/CPR, AED certified and maintain current certifications within the first three months of employment.
- Strongly prefer LPN, CNA, or EMT.
