Substitute Clinical Aide

About the role

The Clinical Aide provides first aid and care for ill or injured students under the supervision of the School Nurse. They also perform delegable nursing services and communicate changes in student health status.

Responsibilities

• Administers first aid to injured or ill students following Student Health Services policies and American Heart Association/American Red Cross standards.
• Provides care for ill or injured students by assisting with physician-prescribed, parent-approved medications and performing delegated nursing procedures.
• Supports the School Nurse by conducting vision and hearing screenings, monitoring and auditing immunization records, and referring students to the School Nurse.
• Maintains student health and immunization records and performs related clerical duties.
• Performs periodic maintenance checks of the school's Automated External Defibrillator (AED), sanitizes health office cots, and ensures the health office is clean and organized.
• Communicates with students, families, and staff regarding Student Health Services policies.

Requirements

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain within 30 days a current Heartsaver + AED CPR card from the American Heart Association; possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days a Standard First Aid card from American Heart Association or Red Cross.

Knowledge: Knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, basic first aid and emergency procedures, current office procedures, basic computer software and data-entry skills, files and records management, and telephone etiquette.

Skills: Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, rendering first aid to injured and ill students, preparing and maintaining accurate and complete records, dealing tactfully with students, parents, and school personnel on health issues, applying specific laws, rules and office policies and procedures, reading, writing and speaking English at a level required for successful job performance, working quickly and effectively in stressful and emergency situations, understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: Any related experience that would demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the necessary duties would be qualifying.

Please be advised health insurance premiums are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.

New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
