About the role

HDR is seeking a Substation Project Structural Engineer to join our Power Delivery team. This role involves designing high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects up to 500kV, including steel structure and foundation analysis & design.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structural engineering tasks for substation structural members such as rolled steel shapes, lattice steel framing, and folded plate tubular steel shapes.
  • Design detailed calculations and drawings for substation projects, working closely with Project Managers (PM) and project teams.
  • Coordinate with project teams in different locations to ensure project deliverables meet quality standards.
  • Train, mentor, and guide EITs (Engineers in Training) and assist senior engineers in developing best practices.
  • Participate in project reviews and coordinate with other engineers to maintain and update standards.
  • Perform quality checks and reviews for project deliverables, ensuring adherence to HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Collaborate with other engineers to develop and maintain standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects, including foundation and steel structural design.
  • Experience using industry standard design software, including PLS-Tower and Mathcad Prime, AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

Preferred/ Desired Qualifications

  • Technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity.
  • Familiarity with the latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE-113 and other industry standards.
  • Experience with industry standard design software, including STAAD, RISA, MFAD, L-Pile, or Equivalent.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. The targeted salary range is $90,682 - $145,990.
