Substation Project Manager
About the role
The Project Manager at Irby Construction Company is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating high-voltage transmission and distribution projects, overseeing multiple crews, and ensuring safe, high-quality, and cost-effective project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Attend pre-construction meetings with estimators and stakeholders.
- Review bid packages for accuracy, completeness, and scope.
- Provide technical assistance, interpret drawings, and recommend construction methods and equipment.
- Assist in developing construction schedules, plans, and organizing crews.
- Work with Superintendent to assign foremen to job tasks and generate lists of required personnel, equipment, and tooling.
- Arrange for personnel and equipment transfers to projects.
- Support pre-construction activities including bid preparation, contract and exhibit review, and execution planning.
- Oversee budget projections for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Ensure project expenditure remains within established budgets, implementing cost-saving strategies.
- Develop, update, and manage project schedules.
- Prepare billing packages and submit documentation to clients.
- Maintain comprehensive records of working documents per document control practices.
- Generate and review daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Present project updates to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- Accountable for cost, progress, and schedule for the duration of the project.
- Aid in monthly forecasts for the business unit.
- Ensure compliance with safety programs and review all accidents.
- May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild/repair damaged power systems.
- Attend training classes or seminars on new processes, safety regulations, and refresher training.
- Review personnel with Operations (i.e., personal evaluations, pay raises, CDL requirements, personal problems, loans, etc.).
- Arrange and/or participate in weekly foremen meetings (review if not attending).
- Arrange and/or participate in monthly safety meetings (review if not attending).
- Participate in monthly job safety review meetings.
- Accountable for cost, progress, and schedule for duration of project.
- Aid in monthly forecast by the 10th of each month.
- Accountable for compliance with safety program and review all accidents.
- Follow up on any complaints (from owner, general public, or landowners).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Construction Science/Management, Engineering, or equivalent field is preferred, but equivalent work experience will be considered.
- PMP Certification is a plus.
- Skilled with project management software (Excel, P6, MS Project, EcoSys, etc.).
- Strong organizational, analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and prioritize assignments.
- Management and supervision skills.
- High sense of integrity and strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours as required.
- Knowledge of applicable municipal, state, and federal legislation is an asset.
Qualifications
