About the role

The Substation Practice at David Evans and Associates (DEA) is seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of substation design work for utility-scale wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Create and oversee substation design deliverables from preliminary through IFC plan sets; deliverables may include but not limited to: one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring, general arrangements, conduit, grounding, equipment connection details, design criteria, equipment specifications, and construction specifications
  • Perform engineering calculations such as bus sizing, AC/DC station service sizing, cable sizing, grounding, and equipment selection
  • Coverage with project manager and multidisciplinary project teams to support project execution
  • Aid in preparation of technical studies (short circuit, grounding, arc flash, etc.)
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of junior engineers’ work and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and SMEs
  • Provide support during construction phases, including RFI responses and submittal review
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers as they develop substation design skills and project delivery experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • 4-8 years' experience specifically in substation protection & control, or physical design experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, BESS)
  • Consulting experience preferred
  • Familiarity with substation design tools (e.g., EasyPower, ETAP)

    Pay

    Potential salary range: $120,000 - $150,000

    Flexible 9/80 schedule—every other Friday off!
