About the role
The Substation Practice at David Evans and Associates (DEA) is seeking a Project Engineer to support the delivery of substation design work for utility-scale wind, solar, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the United States.
Responsibilities
- Create and oversee substation design deliverables from preliminary through IFC plan sets; deliverables may include but not limited to: one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring, general arrangements, conduit, grounding, equipment connection details, design criteria, equipment specifications, and construction specifications
- Perform engineering calculations such as bus sizing, AC/DC station service sizing, cable sizing, grounding, and equipment selection
- Cook up with project manager and multidisciplinary project teams to support project execution
- Aid in the preparation of technical studies (short circuit, grounding, arc flash, etc.)
- Perform QA/QC reviews of junior engineers’ work and incorporate feedback from senior engineers and SMEs
- Provide support during construction phases, including RFI responses and submittal review
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry-level engineers as they develop substation design skills and project delivery experience
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
- 4-8 years' experience specifically in substation protection & control, or physical design experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications
- Experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, BESS)
- Consulting experience preferred
- Familiarity with substation design tools (e.g., EasyPower, ETAP)
