Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and train engineering staff in relay protection and control design as well as Substation physical design
  • Identify and implement appropriate protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations
  • Select protection devices and ensure proper equipment sizing and specification
  • Prepare scopes of work, estimates, and conceptual designs for substation projects
  • Create and review drawing packages including wiring diagrams, schematics, protection panels, one-line, and three-line diagrams
  • Conduct power system studies including short-circuit analysis, relay coordination, CT performance, and relay loadability
  • Utilize software tools such as ASPEN, ETAP, and AcSELerator to develop and validate protection settings
  • Perform load calculations for panels, battery systems, voltage drop, and other substation components
  • Support field personnel during construction and pre-inspection of turnkey substation projects
  • Deliver accurate designs of high-voltage electrical substation components that meet industry and client standards
  • Design substation systems and components including general arrangement, equipment layout, grounding, conduit, and bills of material
  • Prepare construction drawing packages for bids and review incoming submittals for alignment with design and constructability
  • Perform quality reviews of electrical engineering work for both peers and subcontractors
  • Interface with clients and vendors to ensure project alignment and technical accuracy
  • Provide technical guidance on relay settings schemes for various system topologies
  • Perform quality control and peer reviews of settings calculations and fault analysis studies

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 8+ years of Substation design experience in the electric utility industry
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Engineering supervision or project management experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel to client sites and attend technical conferences
