Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor, and train engineering staff in relay protection and control design as well as Substation physical design
- Identify and implement appropriate protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations
- Select protection devices and ensure proper equipment sizing and specification
- Prepare scopes of work, estimates, and conceptual designs for substation projects
- Create and review drawing packages including wiring diagrams, schematics, protection panels, one-line, and three-line diagrams
- Conduct power system studies including short-circuit analysis, relay coordination, CT performance, and relay loadability
- Utilize software tools such as ASPEN, ETAP, and AcSELerator to develop and validate protection settings
- Perform load calculations for panels, battery systems, voltage drop, and other substation components
- Support field personnel during construction and pre-inspection of turnkey substation projects
- Deliver accurate designs of high-voltage electrical substation components that meet industry and client standards
- Design substation systems and components including general arrangement, equipment layout, grounding, conduit, and bills of material
- Prepare construction drawing packages for bids and review incoming submittals for alignment with design and constructability
- Perform quality reviews of electrical engineering work for both peers and subcontractors
- Interface with clients and vendors to ensure project alignment and technical accuracy
- Provide technical guidance on relay settings schemes for various system topologies
- Perform quality control and peer reviews of settings calculations and fault analysis studies
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- 8+ years of Substation design experience in the electric utility industry
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Engineering supervision or project management experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to travel to client sites and attend technical conferences
