Substation Engineering Manager

About the role

This role is within HDR's Power sector, focusing on substation engineering. You will play a crucial role in shaping how electricity is generated, transmitted, and delivered.

Responsibilities

• Develops a partnership with Project Managers, ensuring technical execution aligns with project scope, schedules, budgets, and client management.
• Collaborates with the technical leadership team to establish processes and procedures for quality control, technical expertise, and project delivery.
• Mentors and trains junior staff, developing internal trainings and technical development plans.
• Plans and assigns project tasks, providing technical guidance to project team members.
• Supports the technical aspects of project scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure, progress assessment, risk assessment, change management, and schedule management.
• Performs quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables according to HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.
• Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for projects from other teams as needed.
• Manages multiple projects concurrently, leading teams across different locations.
• Identifies and develops specific technical expertise, attending training and seminars to enhance understanding of complex concepts.
• Assists in developing technical papers and presentations for industry conferences or other events.
• Participates in project reviews as needed.

Requirements

• Master's degree preferred
• PMP certification preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• 7+ years related experience
• Minimum 2 years project management experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• MS Office and MS Project experience required, MS Access experience preferred
• Demonstrated leadership skills

Qualifications

• Ability to lead multiple projects concurrently

• Knowledge of HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS)
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to manage project timelines and budgets
• Experience with project management tools like MS Project
