Substation Engineer II - P&C - Power Delivery
About the role
As a Substation Engineer II - P&C, you will serve as an engineer on electric substation design projects for high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. You will apply NESC, NEC, and other applicable codes and standards in engineering design and independently produce:
- One-line diagrams
- Three-line diagrams
- Potential and current schematics
- Control schematics
- Alarm schematics
- Protection and control specifications
- I/O mapping
Familiarity with protection scheme functionality is required. Ability to develop relay settings and associated points mapping is preferred but not required. You will collaborate with internal and external project stakeholders to ensure project milestones and contracted service expectations are met.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and EHV (above 230kV) substation projects, including:
- Development of one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, potential and current schematics, control schematics, alarm schematics, and communications schematics
- Wiring diagrams
- Protection and control specifications (preferred)
- I/O mapping (preferred)
- Points mapping (preferred)
- Relay settings (preferred)
- Documentation for design calculations
- Construction documentation (sequence and RFP)
- Provide technical support for procurement and construction
- Coordinate actively with project stakeholders
- Work seamlessly with a P&C Designer to develop schematics and associated wiring diagrams
- Coordinate efforts with other internal and external project team members, identifying when collaboration with disciplines such as transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, and telecom engineers is needed
- Assist in identifying key client interests and drivers, communicating these to the project team and developing approaches to accommodate them
- Serve as a technical specialist for system protection and communication, providing consultation and guidance to project teams
- Remove impediments obstructing the engineering team from achieving its goals
- Advise management on maximizing team ROI
- Attend all client technical review meetings

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized accredited program
- Minimum of 4 years of related work experience in high voltage substation design – P&C
- EIT Certification
- Proficient in AutoCAD or Bentley MicroStation
- Strong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety Code
- Good knowledge of industry and technology trends specific to substations
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional engineering license or ability to obtain one within 2 years of hire
- Experience in protection device coordination
- Knowledge of construction practices and constructability
- Experience with proposal writing and project estimating
- Working knowledge of scheduling and project controls processes
