About the role

OUC - The Reliable One is seeking a Substation Electrician II to join the Transmission, Substation, System Protection division. The role involves maintenance and testing of all substation equipment, including high and low voltage switching activities. Key responsibilities include assisting the crew in preparing vehicles for assignments, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and planning ahead.

Responsibilities

  • Work with crews maintaining and testing all substation equipment under leadership of Electrician I or Lead Electrician.
  • Assist crew in performing HV and LV switching activities under supervision of Electrician I or Lead Electrician.
  • Review job assignments and safety procedures each morning with Electrician I or Lead Electrician.
  • Absorb and prepare vehicle for next assignment with tools and equipment for their crew, being personally responsible for assigned equipment.
  • Help ensure all job-related equipment needs, crew needs, etc. are met (i.e. tools available, trucks are stocked, parts available, etc.).
  • Aid in training and requirements for Substation Electrician IIIs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in substation construction, maintenance, and testing or two (2) years as an OUC Substation Electrician III and 6 months as OUC Substation Apprentice Electrician.
  • Current and valid Florida Driver’s License Class A CDL (required), tanker endorsement (preferred).
  • Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) clearance, or ability to acquire within six (6) months of hire.
  • Completion of OUC Substation Electrician III sign-off book; and Maintenance of all safety certifications acquired at the OUC Substation Electrician III level; and Completion of required OUC Substation Electrician III level training or equivalent skills, training, or certifications (required).

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical maintenance methods within a substation.
  • Advanced understanding of AC & DC electrical principles.
  • Mechanical skills as related to electrical equipment.
  • Maintenance testing methods for substation equipment.
  • Familiarity with schematics, manufacturer prints, and wiring drawings.
  • Familiarity with oil processing unit.
  • Knowledge of mathematics to include graphic arithmetic, principles of mechanical concepts, reading comprehension (CAST Test competencies).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to comprehend instruction manuals and participate in electrical training.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and discover the core of the problem.
  • Ability to demonstrate how to succeed and set an example for others (mentoring/coaching).
  • Ability to build relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • Able to take direction and demonstrate an eagerness to learn.
  • Able to wear and use various safety equipment (breathing apparatus, etc.).

Skills

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to retain information.
  • Physical abilities to perform all aspects of substation electrician work without physical limitations.

The salary range starts at $38.407 per hour (Estimated $79,886.56 annually) with a structured step progression system and performance-based pay increases every 6 months up to $45.774 per hour (Estimated $95,209.92 annually).
