Substation Control Center Manager
Job Overview
The Substation Control Center Manager is a senior technical and program leader responsible for building Premier PV's substation control center capability from product roadmap through factory-ready execution. This role oversees configurable S/M/L control houses, panel and rack sub-assemblies, integration kits, supplier qualification, FAT/ITP readiness, and the transition from current-facility pilots to Dallas Factory #2 production.
About the Role
Works cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Facilities, Business Development, Estimating, and EPC/Owner partners. May directly or indirectly lead engineers, designers, technicians, integration partners, and contract resources assigned to the program. Owns the control center product roadmap from concept through PG-3, PG-5, pilot production, and high-volume manufacturing readiness. Drives release of near-term sub-product development including Network Panel, Panel #4 SCADA & Communications, protection panel assemblies, Roxtec penetration kits, cable ladder/trench kits, AC distribution and lighting kits, station DC kits, HVAC kits, UPS kits, security rough-in kits, fire/life-safety prep, and FAT/ITP kits.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain PRDs, reference mechanical/structural drawings, interface control documents, BOMs, travelers, work instructions, test procedures, and acceptance criteria.
- Accountable for mechanical and structural compliance interfaces including enclosure layout, aisle clearances, cable entry arrays, lifting/rigging points, HVAC interfaces, battery ventilation, grounding interfaces, fire/life-safety provisions, and factory integration details.
- Coordinate electrical interface requirements while recognizing that EPC/Owner engineering owns project-specific one-lines, protection/network architecture, relay settings, and SAT leadership unless otherwise contracted.

- Ensure applicable design practices consider NEC, IBC, ASCE 7, IEEE 693, IEEE 1613, IEEE 80, IEEE 485/484/1106, NFPA 72, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 2001 where applicable.
- Partner with Supply Chain to qualify A/B suppliers for panels, racks, enclosures, penetrations, HVAC, UPS, battery/charger systems, lighting, fire detection, security rough-in, labels, cable tray, and fabricated parts.
Requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, Industrial, or related Engineering discipline. ABET-accredited degree preferred.
- 10+ years of engineering, product development, manufacturing integration, or utility/industrial electrical infrastructure experience; 12+ years preferred.
- 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, quality, or product-development teams.
- Experience with substation control houses, protection/control panels, SCADA/communications racks, station DC systems, auxiliary power systems, modular electrical buildings, e-houses, or industrial control panels.
- Working knowledge of UL 508A panel-shop practices and component compliance paths for listed/recognized equipment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical/structural design interfaces, fabrication packages, enclosure integration, HVAC/ventilation, cable routing, penetrations, grounding interfaces, lifting/rigging, and factory test readiness.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to align engineering, operations, procurement, quality, executives, EPCs, and owner/customer stakeholders.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT progress is preferred but not required.
Skills
- Experience with SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, Eaton, Schneider, or similar utility control, protection, SCADA, UPS, DC, and panel equipment ecosystems.
- Experience with ISO 9001, NPD/phase-gate processes, first-article inspection, PPAP-style supplier qualification, and factory acceptance testing.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical, Smartsheet, ERP/PLM/PDM systems, Bluebeam, and technical document-control processes.
