Substance Use Counselor (CV1269-1) - Reentry Services Division
Job Summary
Volunteers of America Delaware Valley is seeking a Substance Use Counselor to join their Behavioral Health & Reentry Services team. The role involves providing clinical support for individuals working toward recovery and reintegration, conducting assessments, developing service plans, facilitating sessions, linking clients to resources, and coordinating treatment.
Responsibilities
- Complete client assessments using agency-approved tools
- Develop, implement, and revise client-centered, recovery-oriented service plans
- Conduct individual counseling sessions and facilitate therapeutic groups
- Link clients to internal and external support services and community resources
- Maintain client progress, document outcomes, and ensure compliance with funding standards
- Coordinate treatment across interdisciplinary teams and collaborate on discharge planning
- Provide licensed counseling support to clients across multiple programs as needed
- Participate in team meetings, in-service training, and quality assurance activities
- Support client housing environment through participation in house meetings
Requirements
- NJ LCADC, CADC, or another licensed health professional qualified to provide alcohol and drug counseling
- Experience working with substance use, behavioral challenges, and group dynamics
- Solid understanding of social learning theory and cognitive-behavioral interventions (preferred)
- Proficiency in client assessment, case planning, and documentation
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer skills and ability to manage caseload data effectively
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet agency driving standards
- Ability to pass criminal background and drug screening
- Bilingual fluency is a plus
