Substance Use Counselor CASAC

About the role

The Substance Use Counselor is an integral member of the clinical team and serves as primary counselor to a caseload of substance use disorder patients. Responsibilities include managing a caseload, providing individual and group counseling, conducting assessments, coordinating services, psychoeducation, referrals, and maintaining up-to-date documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develops a treatment plan in concert with the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor that reflects an understanding of specialized Track issues related to physical, medical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs and specific diagnoses.
• Uses a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to collaborate with patients and internal/external treatment team members to support patients in their treatment and recovery.
• Provides clinical consultation to referral resources, mentors, family members, and others to help support patients in their recovery.
• Engages patients in the decision-making process and helps them understand the benefits of assessment and accessing the appropriate level of care.
• Collects and reviews referral information upon assignment of patients from the referral source and consults with others as needed to support coordination of services and scheduling of patient interviews.
• Based on assessments, makes referrals to the most appropriate programs and agencies to help patients access the right level of care.
• Assists patients with scheduling an admission or first appointment date at the program or facility where they are referred.
• Monitors patient access to and involvement with treatment and other providers to help address barriers to treatment and the recovery process.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• OASAS CASAC-T or CASAC Certification.
• Minimum one to two (1-2) years of related experience working with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), preferably within an Opioid Treatment Program.
• Knowledge and/or training in Trauma-Informed Care and various organizational treatments.
• Knowledge of and experience working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
• Knowledge of the laws regarding personnel and client information.

Pay

$30.22–$32.96 per hour
