Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
Position
The Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct counseling, guidance and case management services to clients with specific substance abuse problems. The Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)/ Case Manager participates in delivery of social services to all clients of the program.

Volunteers of America–Greater New York (VOA–Greater New York) is a leading anti-poverty organization serving neighbors in need across New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Westchester. Through 70+ programs, we support over 35,000 adults and children each year, including individuals experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, youth aging out of foster care, veterans, seniors, and children with developmental delays. Our staff are at the heart of this work, creating meaningful change every day.
Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate counseling services to individuals with specialized needs as defined in the service plan.
- Develop service plans with clients which address individualized needs.
- Maintain client records.
- Maintain linkages with community treatment providers.
- Complete accurate and comprehensive service delivery reports.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- A current Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) by NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.
- A minimum of one year’s experience of social services experience in treatment planning, individual and group counseling, case management, and crisis intervention.
