Substance Abuse Counselor

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients through medically assisted treatments and offers techniques for handling opioid addiction.
  • Conducts individual and group counseling sessions to assist with crisis management and coping strategies.
  • Evaluates patients' progress during counseling and collaborates with doctors, nurses, and other counselors to assist patients in achieving overall outcomes.
  • Facilitates, establishes, and reviews with each patient the initial treatment plan.
  • Completes bio-psychosocial assessments.
  • Develops aftercare and discharge plans.
  • Ensures efficient and effective delivery of counseling services to all patients in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Performs other related duties as determined by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Human Service field.
  • Must be certified as an Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of West Virginia.
  • Previous experience working with chemically dependent individuals is preferred.
  • Demonstrate a positive, non-judgmental, and accepting attitude toward the patient population.
  • Understanding of an EMR system (electronic medical records).
  • Satisfactory drug screen and criminal background check required.
