Brief Description

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Support in facilitating and monitoring of the continual evaluation of each child’s progress.
  • Support in facilitating direction, resources, and support to the program staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating program curriculum.
  • Support in providing leadership and guidance to children, families, and staff.
  • Support in the implementation of SJB Curriculum.
  • Nurture and facilitate the learning experience by meeting each child at their point of need through a variety of teaching methods, which include but are not limited to individualized care and small group experiences.
  • Interact daily with each child and support his or her learning process.
  • Manage and implement a positive approach by combining consistency, empathy, and culturally diverse practices.
  • Support in the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum activities for children.
  • Provide direct support, engagement, and extension of a child’s play and learning experiences by offering assistance and providing resources.
  • Support in designing interest areas to provide choices, opportunities for safe risks, and challenge children to interact, learn, create, and thrive while corresponding with the developmental and individual needs of each child, thus fostering the desire to learn.
  • Support Classroom and Behavior Management.
  • Offer clear expressions of expectations with natural and logical consequences.
  • Be familiar with the needs of each family and follow the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  • Maintain a Family Communication Log for each child.
  • Conduct Daily Health checks upon the children’s arrival and departure.
  • Ensure children are signed in and out upon arrival and departure.
  • Other duties assigned by Master Teacher, Site Director, or Regional Director.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum of 12 semester ECE or CD units (including core courses –Programs/Curriculum, Child Family Community, Child/Human Growth & Development).
  • Three semester units in the care and development of infants is required for those who work in the infant and toddler classrooms.
  • Associate Teacher Permit or higher or eligibility to obtain an Associate Teacher Permit or higher within 90 days.
  • Must be in good health as verified by a current health screening, including a test for Tuberculosis performed under the supervision of a physician not more than 60 days prior to employment.
  • Proof of up to date immunization records to include but not limited to Measles, Pertussis, Tuberculosis (every 4 years) and Influenza (annually).
  • Current Pediatric First Aid and CPR from an approved vendor.
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, criminal record, FBI and DOJ clearance and child abuse index check prior to employment.
  • Must possess California Drivers License and meet minimum insurance requirements for personal vehicle and have a driving record which meets the standards set forth in Administrative Regulation 4532 and 4533.
  • Completion of Mandated Reporter Training as per Assembly Bill 1207. Must be completed every 2 years.
  • Infant/Toddler Teachers must show proof of completion of at least 3 semester units related to care for infants.

Knowledge of:

  • Title 5/22 Regulations.
  • Principals of Child Development.
  • Curriculum Development.
  • Basic clerical duties.
  • Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to:

  • Effectively implement regulations, guidelines and curriculum.
  • Effectively communicate with regulatory agents, parents, staff, and community representatives.
  • Establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with peers.
  • Communicate clearly, both written and verbally.
  • Prepare accurate reports as requested.
  • Advocate for the needs of children, family, and staff.
  • Complete 21 hours of Professional Development training annually.
  • Awareness and respect for cultural differences.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures with conformance to the prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from government entities, employees, managers, clients, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts with a 10 Key.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables, occasionally in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, and walk.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • This position is an at-will employment position.
