Submarine Insulation Installer - Experienced

About the role

Submarine Insulation Installers at Electric Boat are responsible for providing anti-sweat, personnel protection, thermal and acoustic insulation treatments on all piping systems and major shipboard components as required by plan. They use a variety of materials such as fiberglass, calcium silicate, PVC Nitrile rubber, barium sulfate, and standard lagging coverings. The position involves interpreting drawings and insulation schedules, working with chicken wire and high temperature cement, and sewing various coverings.

Responsibilities

• Interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
• Work in restricted and confined spaces
• Work all shifts
• Work in radiological areas of the boat
• Work road assignments
• Work overtime assignments as required
• Possess basic hand tools
• Obtain and maintain a US Department of Defense SECRET clearance

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or 2+ years of relevant technical experience
• 5+ years of relevant pipecovering experience
• Willingness to work in cold, dry, dusty, fume-filled, hot, noisy, wet, and confined environments
• Ability to climb, crawl, kneel, lift up to medium weight, reach, stoop, twist, and push/pull

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Vocational, Technical, or Community College education or apprentice programs preferred
• Military shipbuilding, manufacturing, or shipyard experience preferred

Skills

• Interpreting technical manuals and drawings
• Interpreting insulation schedules
• Working with chicken wire and high temperature cement
• Sewing various coverings
