About the role

Electric Boat is seeking individuals eager to learn and grow within our Lagging Department as we continue to build the most advanced submarines. As a Submarine Insulation Installer, you will work with a variety of materials including fiberglass, calcium silicate, PVC Nitrile rubber, barium sulfate, and standard lagging coverings. Your responsibilities include providing anti-sweat, personnel protection, thermal, and acoustic insulation treatments on all piping systems and major shipboard components as required by plan. You will also interpret drawings and insulation schedules, use chicken wire and high temperature cement, and sew various coverings.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret drawings and insulation schedules as necessary to complete assigned work
  • Work with fiberglass, calcium silicate, PVC Nitrile rubber, barium sulfate, and standard lagging coverings
  • Provide anti-sweat, personnel protection, thermal, and acoustic insulation treatments on all piping systems and major shipboard components as required by plan
  • Use chicken wire and high temperature cement to provide a hard covering on some insulation materials
  • Sew various coverings on other treatments
  • Work conditions may include entry into restricted and confined spaces
  • Able to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
  • Ability to work all shifts
  • Willingness to work road assignments and work in Radiological areas of the boat
  • Must be available to work overtime assignments as required
  • Will be required to possess your own basic hand tools
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Dept. of Defense SECRET Clearance

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or 2+ years of relevant technical experience
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience to this job description
  • Additional preference given for Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs, Military Shipbuilding, manufacturing, or shipyard experience
  • Physical Qualifications: Climbing, Color Vision, Crawling, Heavy Lifting, Kneeling, Light Lifting, Medium Lifting, Pulling, Pushing, Reaching, Stooping, Twisting
  • Environmental Attributes: Cold, Dry, Dusty, Fumes, Hot, Inside, Noise, Outside, Wet

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current High School Senior or 2+ years of relevant technical experience
