Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM (40 hours/week). School year: 180 school days plus reduced summer hours available.
About the role
The Student Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting students Kindergarten through 12th grade to and from school following established routes. They may also transport students and faculty to field trips, sporting events, job shares, or other special events.
Responsibilities
- Transport students to and from school in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with established bus routes and all bus operating laws.
- Read and understand bus route sheet and follow instructions.
- Communicate effectively with passengers, parents, and school officials.
- Use the two-way radio to communicate with the Transportation Office.
- Complete pre- and post-trip inspections, report any mechanical deficiencies, and properly maintain the DVIR.
- Enforce bus safety rules and maintain control of the students in the vehicle. Report any difficult-to-control incidents to the Transportation Office.
- Ensure that all students are secure in seatbelts or car seats while the vehicle is in motion, if equipped.
- Assist students in and out of seatbelts, harnesses, car seats, or any other child restraint device, if necessary.
- Assist physically challenged students or wheelchair students, if necessary.
- Inspect vehicles after each route for "sleeping" students and items left by students.
- Substitute as a Transportation Aide for a student, if necessary.
Requirements
- STV/Bus driver with CDL B with P and S endorsement or Class D with V endorsement.
- Must pass background check and DOT physical and drug test.
- Must maintain a commercial driver’s medical certificate and pass continuous random drug tests.
- 120 working day probationary period.
- Experience transporting K-12 students preferred.
Pay
- Starting wage for STV/Bus Driver with CDL with P and S endorsement: $21.75/hour.
- Starting wage for Student Van Driver with Class D with V endorsement: $18.10/hour.
