Student Support Specialist - Ánimo Compton Charter School

Green Dot is seeking a talented Student Support Specialist to support and work with a team of school leaders at our Ánimo Compton site. This role focuses on creating a positive campus-wide culture, implementing the school-wide behavior management program, and facilitating parent conferences, interventions, and other student supports.

Responsibilities

• Implement school-wide discipline systems and enforce all school-wide rules and expectations.
• Manage mild and moderate discipline referrals from start to end, including completing investigations, providing cognitive coaching, communicating with parents, inputting information in PowerSchool, facilitating reconnection meetings, assigning consequences, and following up with teachers.
• Coordinate school detentions, Restorative Resets, and Saturday School programs.
• Manage daily student conduct agreements and daily check-ins.
• Facilitate parent conferences as needed.
• Serve on the School Culture Team, supporting the Assistant Principal of Culture with tasks as needed.
• Supervise before, during, and after school, including lunch periods and other school events.

Specific to Ánimo Compton

• Promote and facilitate Restorative Practices through cognitive coaching, student mediations, leading ‘Reconnection’ meetings, and ‘Harm Circles’.
• Assist teachers by working with off-task students, sometimes in real-time inside the classroom.
• Support students during summer school, summer bridge, and other off-calendar programs.

Requirements

• Work Hours: Consistent attendance during scheduled hours is required, with limited flexibility due to classroom or operational needs.
• Breaks: Structured within the workday and must align with operational needs and student care requirements.
• Physical Requirements: May require interacting with students or moving through various parts of the school.
• Social Requirements: Extensive interaction with students, colleagues, and members of the public.
• On-Site Presence: Regular, in-person attendance is required; remote work is generally not an option.

Qualifications

As an ideal candidate, you:

• Have a bachelor’s degree (preferred, but not required).
• Are bilingual (English/Spanish) (highly desirable).
• Have experience working in an urban school setting.
• Have experience implementing and managing policies and systems.
• Can establish/foster a positive and safe school culture.
• Have demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and de-escalation.
• Understand Restorative Practices and Trauma-Informed Practices.
• Possess a growth mindset and love of learning.
• Demonstrate proven leadership capabilities.
• Have a strong ethical base and self-awareness.
• Can work independently and manage time effectively.
• Have excellent interpersonal communication and written skills.
• Are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor, and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve.
• Will need to pass a TB test and background check at the time of offer.

Pay

The starting annual salary range for this position is $68,640 - $72,500. Candidates who are new to their role or newly promoted can expect offers between the minimum and the mid-point of the range. Individual education and experience will be considered when issuing offers.
