About the role

The Student Support Officer will lead the administration of the Student Emergency Aid Program and provide wrap around support services to all scholarship recipients. This role is critical in helping students navigate short term crises, persist through academic challenges, and remain on track to degree completion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of student emergency aid funds, including eligibility verification, documentation review, and timely disbursement.
  • Provide check-ins with emergency aid recipients before funds are disbursed to confirm continued need, after funds are distributed, and at the end of the semester to confirm term completion and enrollment for the next academic term.
  • Track emergency aid usage, student outcomes, and program data for internal reporting and evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with program guidelines, funder requirements, and internal policies.
  • Provide individualized outreach, coaching, and short-term case management support to scholarship recipients experiencing financial or personal challenges.
  • Identify barriers to student persistence and collaborate with students to develop action plans and referrals.
  • Connect students to relevant campus-based and community resources and follow-up with students to ensure they receive the support they need.
  • Maintain supportive, student-centered communication through phone calls, messages, and virtual meetings.
  • Partner with scholarship program staff to coordinate support and share relevant insights.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students accessing emergency assistance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of student support processes and program design.
  • Work closely with the scholarships team to promote these services to recipients.
  • Gather student testimonies as needed.
  • Partner with the Community Engagement team to build and maintain expert-level understanding of programs and services across local nonprofits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in working directly with college students, student support services, or education-focused nonprofit programs.
  • Deep understanding of student needs and community resources in South Florida.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, student success, and trauma informed practice.
  • Student-centered advising and coaching.
  • Crisis response and problem-solving.
  • Program administration and data tracking.
  • Clear, compassionate communication.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage sensitive financial and personal information.

Qualifications

  • Experience in student support services or education-focused nonprofit programs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay

$62,000 - $72,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications
