Student Support Counselor Intern (26-27) - YES Prep East End Secondary
About the role
The Student Support Counselor Intern works under the guidance of the Student Support Counselor at YES Prep. This internship offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in supporting students' academic and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Working with the Student Support Counseling Team
- Practicing active engagement of all students and building positive relationships with appropriate boundaries
- Identifying, reporting, and developing evidence-based interventions for targeted students
- Consulting and collaborating with campus and system staff, parents/guardians, and community partners in a multi-disciplinary approach to identify and reduce barriers to student achievement and persistence
- Seeking out community resources to establish partnerships that can provide access and services to students, parents, and staff
- Making appropriate referrals for students and families based on knowledge of community resources and partnerships
- Maintaining accurate records while ensuring adequate safeguards for the privacy and confidentiality of information and records
- Additional duties as assigned
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work or counseling
- Currently enrolled in a field placement course within a graduate program
- Belief in and commitment to the mission and core values of YES Prep Public Schools
- Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Ability to work urgently in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment
- Demonstrated ability to work on a team

Benefits
This is an unpaid internship requiring college credit. It is not eligible for benefits with YES Prep Public Schools. Interns must obtain fingerprinting to meet Texas State Educator requirements.
