The Academic Support Specialist provides administrative support to students, faculty, and staff to address individual needs, including challenges. This role supports students through referrals to campus resources and collaboration with other support units to ensure timely and effective assistance. UNF's Student Success team offers a high-energy, collegial work culture where team members contribute daily to helping students succeed. The position emphasizes self-directed and autonomous work, with opportunities for mentorship and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service as the first point of contact for incoming customers.
  • Manages front office processes, including in-person, telephone, and email assistance.
  • Oversees office email inboxes and voicemail boxes.
  • Directs student inquiries efficiently to appropriate resources.
  • Assists the Director/Associate, Assistant Director, and Advising Staff with organizing and preparing for New Student Orientations.
  • Supports End of Term processes as determined by the Advising Leadership team.
  • Assists with registration functions, such as lifting holds and providing registration overrides, under the direction of the Advising Director.
  • Hires, trains, schedules, and manages student workers.
  • Supervises student assistant staff.
  • Occasionally works on Saturdays to assist or participate in university events.
  • May be required to perform specific job-related duties during declared campus emergencies at designated off-campus locations or residences.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a fast-paced customer service setting preferred.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Higher education experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both spoken and written).
  • Ability to maintain calm in stressful environments.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Comfortable learning new technology.
  • Ability to learn new information through training and provide accurate responses to inquiries via phone and email.
  • Must be able to perform processing and work tasks.

This position requires a background check and may also require a credit check. The holder of this position is designated as a Responsible Employee under Title IX and must promptly report allegations of sexual misconduct, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse involving any student, employee, contractor, or visitor.
