About the role
The Gallery & Student Services Assistant plays a crucial role in transforming the art school and gallery environment into a welcoming, inspiring space for students, families, and art enthusiasts. This position is perfect for someone with a passion for visual art, creative education, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a welcoming first point of contact for students, families, and visitors — in person and on the phone
- Help open and close the school, ensuring a polished, gallery-ready environment
- Check students into classes and onboard new members into the One River community
- Lead tours for prospective students and families, sharing our programs and creative philosophy
- Aid in scheduling class makeups and supporting calendar coordination
- Build strong relationships with members through thoughtful, attentive service
- Maintain the gallery presentation and confidently speak about student and professional artwork on display
- Ensure smooth student pickup and communicate with parents/guardians when needed
- Support enrollments, schedule changes, freezes, and other student service needs
- Collaborate with instructors and leadership on projects related to programming, marketing, design, and operations
Requirements
- Passionate about visual art, creative education, and community-driven spaces
- Comfortable engaging with people of all ages with warmth and professionalism
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in an active environment
- Positive, collaborative, and motivated to contribute to a strong team culture
- Available for some evening and weekend shifts
Qualifications
- Customer service or administrative experience is helpful, but we're happy to train candidates who bring the right creative mindset and interpersonal strengths
- Bonus if you have familiarity with Google Workspace tools, graphic design or visual communication experience (Canva, Adobe Photoshop, etc.), comfort with social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, background in visual arts, marketing, business, or arts administration, and interest or experience in art education, gallery work, or museum settings
