About the role
The Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist (SRNA) Employment Track is a critical pathway for the University of Maryland School of Medicine to build a robust CRNA team. CRNAs play a vital role in the Department of Anesthesiology, providing expert anesthesia care and contributing to the department's educational, safety, quality, and research missions.
Responsibilities
- Pre-anesthetic preparation and patient evaluation
- Recommendation and request of pertinent diagnostic studies, obtaining informed consent for anesthesia
- Development and implementation of an individualized anesthetic plan of care, selecting and initiating anesthesia techniques
- Insertion and preparation of invasive line catheters/devices, administration of anesthetic agents, and performance of regional anesthesia
- Anesthesia induction, mechanical ventilation maintenance, emergence, and post anesthesia care
- Perianesthetic invasive and non-invasive monitoring, interpretation of abnormal findings, and corrective action
Requirements
- Be a senior student in an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code at time of hire
Qualifications
Must be a senior student, in good standing, with less than one year of education, at an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program.
Skills
CRNAs are expected to exhibit independent thinking, problem-solving abilities, empathy, and scientific acumen while working collaboratively with anesthesiologists in various medical direction/supervision models.
