Student Ready Advisor

Salary range: $52,200 – $60,000 per year. Final offer based on relevant experience and qualifications.

About the role

The Student Ready Advisor supports student success (progression, retention, and completion) by providing academic advising, career planning, and personal development guidance. This position helps students navigate academic challenges, set and achieve educational and career goals, and connect with campus resources. The advisor assists with the administration and coordination of academic or coaching programs, training and onboarding new advisors, and may supervise a small team of advisors and support staff.

Responsibilities

• Conducts holistic academic advising and coaching for current and prospective at-promise student populations via in-person, virtual, phone, and email.
• Provides guidance on degree requirements, course selection, and assists students in setting and achieving educational and career goals.
• Teaches students to track academic progress, interpret policies, and utilize available tools and resources for informed decision-making.
• Monitors the academic progress of a caseload, analyzes student data, transcripts, and placement results.
• Documents student appointments, contacts, and interventions in Inspire following best practices.
• Refers students to relevant academic programs and support services such as counseling, career coaching, and tutoring.
• Represents the Division of Student Success (DSS) and University community to various constituencies regarding advising and coaching processes.
• May teach a section of UNIV 1131 reserved for enrolled at-promise students.
• Maintains a clear understanding of federal, state, and University policies related to the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) and THECB regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree and four (4) years of experience working with college students in an academic advising or coaching capacity, or ten (10) years of equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Four (4) years of progressive academic advising experience at a public R1 University.
• Leadership and/or supervisory experience at an institution of higher education.
• Experience implementing, monitoring, and assessing student development programs/projects.
• Academic Advisor II designation.

Skills

• Knowledge of high-impact academic advising and coaching practices, CAS standards, university policies, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
• Familiarity with college and school degree requirements, the University Catalog, academic advising resources, and administrative functions supporting recruitment, retention, and student success.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Ability to advocate for students, conduct proactive outreach, monitor academic progress, assess needs, and support timely interventions.
• Ability to lead, collaborate, build relationships with internal and external constituents, manage resources, and work independently with initiative and professionalism.
• Ability to handle sensitive student information and maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, Civitas, and student information systems for reporting, tracking outcomes, and assessing efforts.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Hybrid work environment (remote & office). Some evenings and weekends may be required.
