Student Peer Mentor, Student Support Services

Responsibilities

• Work one-on-one with a diverse population of SSS participants, including first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities.
• Provide guidance, encouragement, and connection to academic, personal, and campus resources.
• Aid students in navigating university systems, accessing on-campus and community services.
• Develop effective study and time-management skills for students.
• Assist students in adjusting to college life.
• Identify potential barriers to student success and provide proactive support, referrals, and follow-up.
• Maintain excellent communication and active listening skills.
• Maintain confidentiality and build supportive mentoring relationships with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Document all mentee interactions, referrals, and progress accurately, timely, and according to program expectations.
• Maintain a flexible schedule that accommodates students' availability, including occasional evening or special-event hours.
• Attend all mandatory trainings, monthly staff meetings, workshops, and professional development activities.
• Participate in SSS events and activities designed to increase student engagement, academic achievement, retention, and overall success.
• Serve as positive role models by demonstrating professionalism, dependability, academic responsibility, leadership, and respectful behavior.
• Foster an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment that encourages new and continuing SSS participants to become engaged, confident, and successful members of the university community.

Preferred Qualifications

• Current undergraduate student with at least 30 completed credit hours or graduate student in good academic standing and an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.
• Enrolled full-time during employment (12 credit hours undergraduate; or more credit hours; 6 hours graduate).
• Non-student with a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.
• Experience in working with college-aged students.

Required Qualifications

• Willingness to serve as a peer mentor throughout the academic year, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued eligibility.
• Commitment to working with students on a one-on-one basis, attending monthly group meetings and training.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation of mentoring activities and communicate effectively with a diverse student population.

Salary

$11.00/Hourly.

Hours

Approximately 10 hours per week. Some evening and weekend activities may be required.
