About the Role
Responsible for on-site leadership of campus food service operations. Ensure appropriate quantities of food are prepared and served within time constraints set by menu requirements. The School Nutrition Service (SNS) Manager ensures program compliance and implementation for the Texans Can Academies district, following safe food handling standards set forth by TEA and USDA.
Responsibilities
- Manage the Food Service Operation to meet requirements in accordance with TEA/TDA/USDA guidelines in Texans Can Academies schools.
- Assign work to campus food service workers and oversee completion of duties.
- Maintain all serving schedules and serve all food items according to menu specifications defined by departmental policies and procedures.
- Work cooperatively with campus principal and Director of SNS to accommodate temporary schedule changes and special serving requirements.
- Perform all job functions for any position within the kitchen, including cashier functions, and cover other schools as needed.
- Review and verify student meal applications daily to ensure accurate listing of students eligible for participation in the free/reduced meal program; notify cafeteria staff of eligibility changes.
- Perform random student eligibility verification as assigned by the Director, SNS.
- Supervise the Lead Service Nutrition and Student Nutrition Assistant at the designated district campus.
- Enforce standards of cleanliness, health, and safety; perform monthly safety and sanitation inspections using the Standard Inspection Form and report findings to the Director, SNS.
- Ensure food is produced safely and is of high quality according to policies, procedures, and department requirements; store and handle food items and supplies safely following health and safety codes.
- Determine appropriate quantities of food items and supplies through daily orders and monthly inventories.
- Conduct regular physical inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Monitor and/or prepare all Food Production Records as assigned by the Director, SNS.
- Ensure accurate counting and claiming of meals and proper accounting of all funds.
- Prepare and deliver bi-weekly bank deposits; email bank deposit and cash report to Director, SNS.
- Supervise students to maintain order and ensure safe conduct.
- Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding the student cafeteria and office.
- Monitor work and assign tasks to campus food service workers; resolve personnel issues.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly report non-correctable conditions to the Director.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Food Service Handler Manager Certification required.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in food service supervision; food service management experience preferred.
- Required to complete at least 10 hours of CEU training in the school year.
Skills
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Math skills necessary to convert recipes and quantities quickly and accurately.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation.
- Proficiency with personal computer, printer, fax machine, copier, and calculator.
- Ability to operate standard food service equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
- Ability to meet schedules and time lines.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to stand for long periods at a time.
- Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
- Exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects.
- Working around sharp objects (knives, slicers, etc.).
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes.
Schedule
Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (30-minute lunch). Reporting schedule and lunch are subject to change by the Director of SNS.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise Lead Student Nutrition and Student Nutrition Assistant at assigned campuses.
