Student Nurse Technician-Operating Room

Responsibilities

• Partners with the RN/LPN and other healthcare team members to achieve patient care outcomes and goals of care, as identified in the plan of care.
• Performs specific tasks as directed by the RN/LPN and other healthcare team members, consulting and seeking out guidance as necessary.
• Obtains, records, and/or accurately enters data into the EMR, as identified in the PCT Scope of Practice.
• Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
• Versibly presents factual, concise, and timely information and/or patient care data to the RN/LPN, the healthcare team, patients, and/or family members in a professional manner.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a formal nursing program.
• Completion of introductory clinical nursing course with clinical component.
• The Student Nurse Technician wishing to insert or remove IV cannulas must submit documentation (completed rubric) demonstrating he/she has successfully completed nursing coursework related to this skill.
• Six months of nursing assistant experience preferred.
• Ability to identify patients' needs and implement nursing care for a group of patients under the supervision of a RN/Clinical Instructor.
• Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
• Multicultural sensitivity.
• Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
• Customer/patient focused.
• Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
• Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 15 patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset.
• Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes.
• Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff.
• Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations.
