A Brief Overview
This experienced student team member is a part of the care delivery team under the direction of and assists a Registered Nurse to provide delegated, direct patient care intervention, including the performance of non-sterile procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provides a safe environment for their assigned patients;
- Completes the assigned work;
- Maintains a watchful eye on the patient for any changes in condition and reports these changes to the RN/LPN;
- Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team to achieve expected outcomes;
- Communicates pertinent patient information to appropriate staff in a timely manner;
- Promotes infection prevention through the use of standard precautions, proper procedure in dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene, and cleanliness of the patient rooms/department;
- Assists with activities of daily living (ADLs), accurately measures and records weight, height, vital signs, and reports any changes to the assigned nurse;
- Delivers care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring, fostering caring relationships, uninterrupted moments with patients, unconditional acceptance, and respect;
- Advocates in all roles and settings;
- Supports students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities;
- Commits to lifelong learning through critical thinking, self-reflection, and inquiry for personal growth and development;
- Demonstrates willingness to participate in the evolution of the Stormont Vail Health professional practice model;
- Utilizes appropriate resources to provide, and sustain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible, and used judiciously.
Requirements
- Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program or enrolled in their first semester of an accredited nursing program;
- Is a Certified Nurse Assistant;
- Experience in an office or clinic setting is preferred but not required;
- Knowledgeable of and follows proper technique for patient care;
- Communicates pertinent patient information to appropriate staff in a timely manner;
- Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution;
- Participates actively in educational activities for the department;
- Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
Qualifications
- Education: Successfully completed first semester in an accredited nursing program or enrolled in their first semester of an accredited nursing program and is a Certified Nurse Assistant.
