About the role
This position provides assistance and/or performs basic activities of daily living and specified treatments and procedures under the direct supervision of the nurse. This position may perform non-direct patient care activities as assigned, requested, or directed.
Responsibilities
- Performs and documents basic patient care tasks under the direct supervision of an RN.
- Maintains competency of tasks in which the Student ACT has been trained.
- Completes assigned tasks within required timeframe.
- Serves as a role model to other ACTs for basic patient care competencies and tasks.
- Maintains a safe environment. Reports safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
- Communicates effectively with others. Shows respect to patients, families and co-workers. Reports patient related information in a timely manner.
- Works in collaboration with all members of the health care team. Utilizes chain of command appropriately.
- Performs supply, equipment, and environmental-related activities as required, and described in principal accountabilities.
- Maintains the medical record. Documents accurately in the medical record as per unit/TriHealth guidelines.
- Provides other clerical support to unit as needed and directed by charge nurse or manager.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Completion of first nursing clinical rotation/semester
- Reading and math ability appropriate to the position
- Multi-line phone skills, familiar with patient call systems and pagers
- Previous experience with computer operation
- Student Nurse (LPN or RN)
