Position Overview
Job Description
- Clean, sort, and rehouse archaeological materials (including stone, faunal, botanical, and sediment samples) following established protocols.
- Label, measure, and catalog artifacts and samples.
- Absorb, organize, and maintain laboratory collections and storage systems.
- Retrieve and track samples as needed for analysis.
- Enter and update catalog data in project databases (e.g., Excel and other database platforms).
- Maintain metadata and documentation for all laboratory activities.
- Absorb, integrate legacy datasets into a unified project database.
- Conduct quality-control checks to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
- Absorb, support literature reviews related to regional archaeology and interregional interactions.
- Absorb, support transcription and organization of archival and oral history materials.
- Absorb, assist with preparing data for radiocarbon sampling and analytical workflows.
- Create figures (e.g., maps, charts, and artifact illustrations) for reports, presentations, and publications.
- Absorb, organize, and maintain digital files, images, and project documentation.
- Absorb, assist with the preparation of conference posters, presentations, and other dissemination materials.
Required Qualifications
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel, as indicated in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in anthropology, archaeology, or a related field, as indicated in application materials.
- Experience with laboratory work, collections, or databases, as indicated in application materials.
- Experience creating figures (e.g., Excel, Illustrator, GIS, or similar tools), as indicated in application materials.
- Interest in Arctic, Indigenous, or community-engaged research, as indicated in application materials.
- Experience with transcription, archival work, or qualitative data, as indicated in application materials.
Position Requirements
- Employment Conditions: This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
