Summary Of Responsibilities
The Wee Care Center is looking for a Student Employee – Kitchen Assistant to help with daily meal preparation and cleanup of the kitchen. Under the direction of the Assistant Director and Part-Time Cook, Student Employee—Kitchen Assistants will be responsible for a variety of support tasks including, but not limited to, the following:
- Aiding the Cook with food preparation, cooking, measuring, and serving according to the Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines.
- Aiding the Cook with daily cleaning dishes, surfaces, equipment, and floors according to health department guidelines and best practices.
- Aiding with food inventory and putting away food deliveries properly.
- Supporting the Wee Care Center’s mission with additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a current UVU student and enrolled in at least 6 credits.
- Must have CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain Food handler’s certification.
- Must pass criminal background check through Utah Department of Health.
- Must have available hours in a consistent 3 or 4-hour block between 8 AM-4 PM Monday-Friday.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or food preparation setting.
- Familiarity with the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program.
- Familiarity with food preparation in a childcare setting.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and stand on feet for an extended period.
- Requires standing, grasping, and fine hand manipulation.
- Requires work with kitchen cleaning chemicals, knives, food safe gloves, dishwashing implements, and common allergenic foods.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

- Positive, professional, personable, and willing to be a part of a team working to continually improve.
- Dependable and consistent with attendance and completing tasks.
- Able to follow recipes and able to follow direction from the Cook.
- Use best practices working in a kitchen environment, including but not limited to handwashing, safe food preparation skills and knowledge, and allergen cross-contamination prevention.
- Able to perform basic math functions in relation to ingredient and food serving measurements.
- Able to work dependably and independently once initial training has concluded.
