Student Internship - Resource Adequacy Study

About the role

ISO New England’s Capacity Requirement and Accreditation team is seeking a Resource Adequacy Study Intern to support studies that evaluate whether New England has the resources needed to meet future electricity demand. You will work with subject matter experts on MARS simulations, scenario analysis, renewable integration impacts, load growth, resource changes, risk metrics, and data review, contributing to the reformed Capacity Market and reliability planning.

Responsibilities

• Assist with MARS simulations and “what‑if” scenario analysis.
• Support renewable integration impact studies and load growth assessments.
• Review data and help improve study processes.
• Contribute to resource adequacy studies under the reformed Capacity Market.
• Help analysts focus on higher‑value insights that support grid reliability.

Requirements

• Rising senior (completed at least first year of college) enrolled in a four‑year or graduate‑level program.
• Preferred majors: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Math, Statistics (or related technical field).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
• Basic understanding of power system concepts.
• Programming experience, preferably in Python or R.
• Ability to work in the United States on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (no H‑1B, F‑1/CPT/OPT, etc.).
• Must be based in the U.S.; relocation required if residing outside the U.S.

Pay

Expected hourly range: $19‑$36 per hour, depending on year in college.
