Student Internship - Power System Modeling Engineer
About the role
ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy. As a Power System Modeling Engineer Intern, you’ll help update and maintain the network model, create planning study cases, and analyze generation and load data. You’ll get hands-on experience with tools like PSS®E, work on real projects, and see how different ISO teams collaborate to keep the lights on. This internship is perfect for electrical engineering students with a power systems focus who love problem-solving, coding, and working with data. You’ll gain practical experience, learn from industry experts, and contribute directly to the reliability and planning of the regional grid. The Model Administration and Support Group is responsible for the design, testing, and implementation of power system model changes, with a focus on applications that support power flow, dynamic analysis, contingency analysis, and market operations. This work ensures the accuracy and reliability of the models that are critical to both real-time operations and long-term system planning. You’ll help keep New England’s power grid running smoothly by updating models, analyzing system data, and supporting real planning studies. Your work will give engineers the tools they need to ensure reliable electricity today – and prepare the grid for tomorrow.
