About the role
The Marin County Sheriff's Office is seeking current college students to serve as Sheriff’s Cadets. During the school year, interns work approximately 16 to 25 hours per week, depending on availability. The position does not offer benefits.
Responsibilities
- Provide general information and assistance to the public in person or on the telephone.
- Maintain department vehicles.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Support the Patrol Division at large events.
- Aid in marking and towing of abandoned vehicles.
- Assist Investigations Division personnel with crime scenes.
- Aid the Coroner’s Office.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an academic, vocational curriculum, or graduate level program at a college or university.
- At least 18 years old.
- No felony criminal convictions.
- Meet drug standards.
- Able to work evenings and weekends.
- Willing to wear a uniform.
- Possess a valid California Class C driver's license.
- Currently enrolled in college with at least 9 units per semester or 6 quarters (proof required).
- Maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better.
Qualifications
- Service-oriented.
- Knowledge of basic office practices and business English.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand laws, rules, and Sheriff's Office policies and procedures.
- Carry out instructions, analyze situations, and determine appropriate responses.
