About the role

Reports to the food services supervisor or designee. Assists the cooks and cook helpers in preparation of student meals in compliance with government and management directives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clean-up and sanitation duties in the food preparation, storage, and dish room areas to ensure adequate health standards at all times.
  • Provide adequate supply of food and transfer merchandise ingredients to cooking area as instructed by the cook or designee.
  • Food Preparation: Assist in washing, peeling, chopping, and preparing ingredients.
  • Meal Service: Portion out food, set up serving lines, and serve meals to fellow students according to proper nutritional guidelines.
  • Sanitation & Cleaning: Wash dishes, sanitize eating areas, clean kitchen counters, sweep or mop floors, and clean dining room.
  • Stocking & Storage: Help store deliveries properly, maintain refrigerators and freezers, and rotate stock to ensure freshness and safety.

Requirements

  • Must be reliable and willing to work evenings and some weekends.
  • Must be a completer and ready for work-based learning.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a current Job Corps Center Student currently enrolled in the Culinary Arts program (preferred).
  • Qualified students will, at a minimum, have their student card.
