About the role

The City of San José, the Capital of Silicon Valley, is seeking an individual who aligns with the values of its employees. The City's Department of Public Works (DPW) is responsible for delivering capital improvement projects, maintaining facilities and fleet assets, facilitating and regulating development activities, and providing animal care and services.

Position Duties

  • Plan, create, and schedule engaging content across social media platforms, including graphics, photos, written copy, and short-form video/reels to promote shelter pets, programs, and services.
  • Manage and maintain the social media content calendar, ensuring brand compliance and alignment with ACS social strategies.
  • Organize and maintain digital photo and video libraries, implementing a practical tagging and meta data system for easy access and retrieval.
  • Support website content development and digital outreach, including keeping the public-facing events calendar up to date.
  • Oversee the Tails & Trails program's digital presence by managing volunteer-submitted content and maintaining a consistent posting schedule to increase pet visibility and adoption rates.
  • Track social media engagement metrics and trends, providing data-informed recommendations to improve reach and community impact; support efforts to grow partnerships with SJFC, SJC, and SJ Library.
  • Aid in planning, promotion, and on-site support for community events, public meetings, and outreach activities, including RSVP coordination and attendee engagement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination equivalent to completion of high school and current enrollment in an accredited college or university in undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California may be required in performing job duties.

Selection Process

  • The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to all the job specific questions.
  • Applicants are expected to write their own essays/responses. Only those candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process.
  • Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews.
