Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Responsibilities
- Tutor students enrolled in French courses, particularly lower-division courses, in person and virtually.
- Complete tutoring certification program, model problem-solving skills and study strategies, and assist in curriculum design for the Language Hub.
- Improve personal language skills.
- Participate in the production and dissemination of promotional materials and events.
- Assist in hosting events in the Language Hub.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager.
Requirements
- Current UVU student registered for a minimum of 6.0 credits.
- Native or near-native proficiency in language comprehension, production, and writing.
- Knowledge and ability to explain, in detail, aspects of French (grammar, vocabulary, syntax, pronunciation, colloquial usage, etc.) as covered in French 3050, or equivalent.
- Completion of FREN 3050, or equivalent, with a grade of at least an A–.
- Available to work between 12–15 hours per week, during normal business hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) and possibly some evening hours to be determined.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engagement with French-speaking community outside academic setting.
- Majoring or minoring in French.
- Experience in teaching or tutoring.
- Experience in utilizing tutoring services.
- Experience in collating and analyzing data in Microsoft Excel.
Skills
- Ethical, responsible, motivated self-starter who needs little supervision after training.
- Ability to adhere to a set schedule, generally 15 to 20 hours per week.
- Evidence of advanced customer service and interpersonal skills.
- General computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.).
Schedule
- 12–15 hours per week during normal business hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm).
- Possibly some evening hours to be determined.
