About the role
The Student Finance Service Specialist is responsible for accurately processing student finance transactions, maintaining accounting records, and preparing financial reports. The position involves daily cash receipts, reconciliation, and collaboration with administrative departments to provide guidance on student and department accounts. Exceptional customer service is delivered to students, parents, and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality customer service and ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and procedures related to student accounts.
- Post miscellaneous fees to student accounts and review accounts for mathematical computations and adjustments.
- Receive and post daily cash receipts and payments; verify transactions are posted to appropriate chart strings.
- Prepare cash receipts for bank deposit; run financial cash reports and balance the cash drawer; reconcile and resolve out-of-balance problems.
- Create electronic files for departmental use to increase efficiency and investigate new ways of completing work more effectively.
- Respond to in-person, telephone, and email inquiries from agencies, students, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Manage department group email box and online appointments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in accounting, billing/receivable, cashier services, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills
- Proficient in EIS and Microsoft Office, with experience in Accounts Receivable and Cashier Services, preferably in higher education.
- Skilled in training wide user groups and communicating financial information effectively.
- Capable of independent work, managing multiple assignments promptly and meticulously.
- Analyzes and communicates data clearly across organizational levels, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Develops and maintains detailed documentation for financial processes.
- Adaptable to various communities and student populations.
- Knowledgeable in organizational goals, data privacy laws, and adept at presenting ideas in user-friendly language.
- Highly motivated with strong attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Prioritizes tasks effectively in high-pressure environments, with a strong customer service focus.
Physical Requirements
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
- Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
