About the role

This position plays a key role in supporting student success and enhancing the student experience within the School of Social Work (SSW). The role is responsible for helping develop and implement programs and services that foster community, build leadership capacity, and support students' academic, career, and personal development throughout their transition into and through the program. The position works across both in-person and virtual environments and provides critical logistical, communication, and relational support to ensure that students feel connected, engaged, and empowered.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and coordinates Student Engagement programs, events, and initiatives for incoming, continuing, online, and hybrid students to foster community, connection, and belonging and promote student success.
  • Assists the Director of Student Engagement with the planning, coordination, and logistical support of major School of Social Work student events including welcome programs, career development initiatives, and graduation celebrations.
  • Coordinates and provides leadership, guidance, and oversight for School of Social Work student organization processes, including training, organization registration, event approvals, and leadership development initiatives.
  • Collaborates with university departments, alumni partners, and community stakeholders to develop and deliver career-based student-focused programming aimed at enhancing the understanding of the social work profession.
  • Assists the Director of Student Engagement to develop student leadership curricula that promotes personal and professional leadership development for social work students.
  • Provides onboarding, transition, and referral support for incoming students, helping them connect with resources, services, and engagement opportunities.
  • Manages student engagement communications and digital platforms, including calendars, newsletters, online communities, and other virtual engagement tools.
  • Assists with student engagement assessment initiatives for continuous program improvement efforts.
  • Participates in professional development, departmental meetings, and other assigned duties to support the mission and goals of the School of Social Work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, student affairs, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in student programming, event coordination, or academic support, or seven (7) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, higher education, or related area, and three to five years of experience in student leadership development or advising student organizations.
  • Familiarity with student engagement software.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues, leadership, and external stakeholders in a professional and collaborative manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey information, respond to inquiries, prepare professional correspondence, and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to supervise, guide, and support the work of others by providing direction, feedback, and assistance.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities, manage timelines, maintain accurate records, and support the successful implementation of programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and encourage others by fostering engagement and promoting participation.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, including online learners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, digital communication tools, and virtual collaboration platforms.

Schedule

Monday through Friday; 8:00am through 5:00pm. Requires occasional evening or weekend hours.

Pay

The annual salary for this position ranges from $45,400 to $53,999.
