About the role

Career Peer Mentors serve as the first point of contact in the Career Services office. This role is central to supporting students with job searches, resume building, appointments, and career exploration resources. As a representative of Career Services, you will provide outstanding customer service, help maintain daily office functions, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and organized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Front Desk & Student Support:
    • Greet and assist walk-ins, ensuring all visitors feel welcomed and respected.
    • Help students activate and navigate Handshake, Focus2, and other tools.
    • Provide resume and job search support (within scope of training).
    • Schedule appointments and manage daily schedule updates.
    • Answer phone calls and voicemails professionally and accurately.
    • Refer students, employers, and faculty to appropriate staff when needed.
  • Career Studio & Bruin Closet:
    • Keep all areas clean, organized, and student-ready.
    • Support students using the Bruin Closet and track inventory.
    • Tidy, restock, and manage donations in accordance with guidelines.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Follow opening/closing and weekly checklists.
    • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professionalism in all interactions.
    • Assist with event prep, marketing tasks, and tabling when assigned.
    • Practice and apply strong communication, time management, and follow-through.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled SLCC student.
  • Ability to work 15–20 hours per week.
  • Professionalism, punctuality, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with basic computer tools (Microsoft Office, Teams, email).
  • Willingness to learn and help others in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Handshake, Focus2, or other career platforms.
  • Previous customer service or peer support experience.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus.
