Student Employment - America Reads Tutor- Esperanza (Bilingual)(Part-Time)
Job Summary
The America Reads Tutor – Esperanza (Bilingual) position provides meaningful, part-time employment for Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) students who qualify for Federal Work-Study. Tutors support elementary-aged children—primarily from bilingual (Spanish-English) backgrounds—in reading and literacy development. Working closely with the Esperanza school community, tutors foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Provide one-on-one or small group reading instruction to elementary students, both in English and Spanish as appropriate
- Support classroom teachers with literacy-related activities and assignments
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging student growth and confidence
- Track student progress and maintain accurate, confidential records of tutoring sessions
- Attend required training sessions if applicable and check-ins with program coordinators
- Uphold school and college policies regarding professionalism, confidentiality, and conduct
Minimum qualifications
- Must be enrolled as a student at Salt Lake Community College
- Must qualify for Federal Work-Study (FWS) funding
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written)
- Passion for education, literacy, and working with children
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Able to pass a background check if required by the school site
