Student Dorm Aide

Work days: Monday - Thursday, 1:30pm to 11:30pm

Desirable Qualifications

• High School diploma (required)
• College graduate in education or associate degree (preferred)
• Ability to communicate with deaf persons using American Sign Language (ASL) and finger spelling
• Ability to successfully complete a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the proficiency level defined for the position
• Commitment to the TCI approach in addressing student behavior
• Commitment to providing a safe and healthy residential school environment
• Valid state driver’s license (preferred)
• Desire to work towards and secure a CDL license

The School may require employees in this classification to complete successful training in behavior management programs, including but not limited to TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention), provided by St. Mary's School for the Deaf.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students, ensuring their safety at all times
• Assist Dorm Supervisors with tasks related to the care and supervision of students and building security
• Escort students to and from routine and special activities, including meals, field trips, sporting activities, and other recreational activities
• Assist in behavior management as prescribed for each student and discuss problems or changes with Supervisors
• Assist students with personal hygiene, including toileting and other physical day-to-day activities for multiply handicapped students
• Oversee afternoon and early evening student activities, homework, and clean-up of dorm areas
• Intercede in emergency situations as required
• Attend staff and department meetings as required
• Complete necessary training(s) as required
• Remain alert and attentive at all times
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned

Pay

Starting at $18.85 per hour
