About the role

The Student Development and Family Liaison provides leadership and coordination for student support systems that promote positive student development, well-being, and academic success. This position works collaboratively with school leadership, staff, and families to foster a safe and supportive learning environment, strengthen family engagement, and ensure consistent behavioral expectations across the school community.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes a positive school climate by establishing and supporting clear behavioral expectations for students.
  • Provides educational lessons, activities, and guidance that support positive behavior outcomes and healthy student development.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for families regarding student development, behavioral concerns, and school support resources.
  • Schedules and facilitates meetings with parents and appropriate staff to address student concerns and develop collaborative solutions.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of significant behavior incidents and interventions.
  • Coordinates responses to behavioral concerns and collaborates with staff to develop appropriate interventions.
  • Works with staff and families to develop behavior support plans when necessary.
  • Collaborates regularly with Special Education staff and counselors to implement preventative strategies and support student needs.
  • Supports the development and communication of policies and expectations outlined in the student and family handbook.
  • Provides guidance and support to students in developing responsibility, self-discipline, and positive decision-making skills.
  • Supervises the School Counseling Department, including school counselors, supporting student social-emotional development and academic success.
  • Oversees the Health Office, including the School Nurse and Health Paraprofessionals.
  • Oversees the Extended Learning Program, including Aftercare services and program coordination.
  • Supervises after-school athletics programs, ensuring appropriate organization and supervision of activities.
  • Supervises the Student Life and Activities Department, including the Student Activities Coordinator and Dragon Life Organization.
  • Supervises the Student Development & Family Support team, including behavior interventionists who provide targeted behavioral support to students.
  • Supervises recess supervisors and lunchroom monitors, ensuring consistent expectations for student supervision during non-instructional times.
  • Ensures coordination and communication across departments to support student well-being and school-wide consistency.
  • Collaborates with school leadership to support consistent implementation of school policies and procedures.
  • Uses data related to student behavior, attendance, and engagement to inform decision-making and support continuous improvement.
  • Supports school initiatives that strengthen student engagement, well-being, and community building.
  • Ensures that supervision structures are in place to maintain a safe and orderly school environment.
  • Serves as the leader of the school’s Crisis Management Team.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director to plan, coordinate, and implement school safety procedures.
  • Provides leadership and coordination during emergency situations to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  • Updates the school Safety Manual annually.
  • Plans and implements required safety drills throughout the school year.
  • Provides annual staff training on safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Attends safety trainings and collaborates with local agencies as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably in student services, counseling, behavior support, or school administration.
  • Experience supervising staff and coordinating student support programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of student behavior support strategies and school discipline policies.
  • Familiarity with student information systems such as Infinite Campus preferred.
  • Ability to use technology and data systems to support communication, documentation, and program coordination.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Able to manage, lead, and support multiple departments and programs simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Able to work effectively with students, families, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
