Student Clinical Assistant

This position is open to nursing students only for the summer SCA program.

About the role

The Student Clinical Assistant (SCA) program provides opportunities for nursing students to enhance their clinical experience in the region's only academic medical center and Level-One trauma center. SCAs work in a variety of inpatient settings including Cardiovascular, Critical Care, Hematology/Oncology, Medicine, Neurosciences, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Labor and Delivery, and Surgery units.

SCAs should be prepared to work both day and evening shifts on a rotating/as-needed basis, and should be prepared to work up to 29 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• SCA I: Provide basic patient care including patient watch, transportation, stocking the unit, and answering call lights.
• SCA II: Provide direct patient care including bathing, positioning, ambulating, and will have responsibility for phlebotomy tasks and EKGs.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in an accredited RN Program with current CPR certification.
• Students in an associate’s or bachelor’s program who have not had clinical experience working in a patient care setting will be considered for appointment to an SCA I role.
• Students who have 3 months of previous patient care experience, or have 2 rotations of clinical experience in their nursing program will be considered for appointment to an SCA II role.

Schedule

Days and evenings with rotating weekends.

Pay

$13.75/hour.
