Student Behavioral Assistant - Anticipated (Ginther School)

Schedule: 6.5 hours per day (9:00 AM – 3:30 PM), 10 months per year (off during school breaks).

Responsibilities

  • Applies therapeutic crises intervention techniques or other structured behavioral approaches as outlined by the Department for Exceptional Children to ensure student safety, including physical interventions for students with emotional disabilities or autism.
  • Assists individual students or small groups with implementing coping and resolution strategies.
  • Supports the teacher and multi-disciplinary team in identifying appropriate behavioral and instructional objectives.
  • Provides supervision to students from arrival to dismissal, including transitions and lunch periods.
  • Participates in all in-service classroom training, including annual recertification in Therapeutic Crises Intervention.
  • Assists the teacher in preparing instructional and behavioral materials and may support students working on assignments after lessons.
  • Gathers assignments from other teachers for students who were absent or missed homework.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate’s degree (or completion of 60 college credits), OR
  • Two years of paid full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience supervising, counseling, or instructing students in a school, institution, or agency for children, OR
  • Two years of paid full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in a role responsible for protecting people or property (e.g., Police Officer, Security Specialist, Military Police), OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above.

Pay

Minimum pay rate: $18.00 per hour.
