About the role
The Student Assistant will provide administrative and clinical support for UHC’s Dental Clinic. Responsibilities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, check-in and check-out, cleaning and setting up exam rooms.
Responsibilities
- Administrative Duties:
- Provides clerical and secretarial support to include check-in and consent process.
- Maintains reception area for patients in distress or for long wait times and acts to resolve.
- Schedules appointments accurately and appropriately.
- Absorbs patient insurance information into the patient portal.
- Offers effective telephone coverage for incoming calls to the clinic.
- Forwards information, messages, or callers to appropriate individuals.
- Communicates appropriate information to patients regarding their visit (preparation, expected timeframe, date, clinician, parking, etc).
- Interacts with callers and staff in a helpful and courteous way.
- Patient Care:
- Documents patient information clearly and accurately.
- Recognizes abnormal findings and urgent problems and seeks appropriate assistance.
- Always ensures patient and staff safety.
- Completes all assignments and procedures in a safe and efficient manner with minimal supervision.
- Respects confidentiality.

- Minimum Qualifications: Current UGA student, health-related major
- Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position: Prior history of employment or volunteerism in patient care, Medical Office Assistant Certification or Certified Nursing Assistant preferred, CPR Certification preferred
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, computer skills including Microsoft Office Outlook and Word, demonstrate the ability to be flexible, organized, and collaborative while working well with a diverse staff in a team setting, exhibit exceptional customer service to internal and external customers
- Physical Demands: Active position including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, typing, bending, talking, listening, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 20 pounds
